Description

Here we can assemble things that should be changed on the new profile page in
build/members/profile.page.php

That's better than creating tons of separate tickets.

Some things we already know:

Obviously this can be considered as a "sub-ticket" to #508 (new "members" application based on Rox)

We should try to seperate the sections of the profile more. That means cutting it to pieces and make it show when you need it. Maybe a folding-effect with JS is a good idea!?

Maybe we should split up the whole content in col3 in 2 subcolumns that have the same size?

One of the most important things in my opinion is a prominent spot for the blogs. At least the latest entry should be visible on top.

I agree that we need a better separation and general order for the things.

Past discussions showed that people have strong and divers opinions on what is important in the profile and what not.
What I would like to see is that we use the movable sections for the profile as well. The customization should not be on a per profile base (this would lead to confusion and make it difficult to quickly screen profiles) but ever member should be able to set what stuff he wants to see at which place in ALL profiles. By this people who are interested in blogs can move them up while other could put emphasis on comments, hobbies, groups or contact details.

If make an anonymous statistics which sections are placed where we can easily improve the default layout (that will still be used by most members)

Mmmh,... as much as I liked the modular personal startpage I am not sure if it's a good idea to make the same possible for the profiles. I got your point that this would be a personal setting for looking at ALL PROFILES but still, I don't know if that is the solution for now.

Avoid JS wherever you can; here for sure you can;)

Replying to micha:

what exactly is on alpha? at least not the new members application as the title suggests.

Modern websites or "applications" would not be as usable and powerful without strong use of JS. So i would say that we should make strong use of JS BUT ONLY if we make sure that all functionality is as well available without JS. Anything that speaks against that?

Yeah and modern tricks to do harm use scripts and script bugs as well. I don't argue in general against the usage of scripts, but right now we have a software where you can't even reply to a message without using java-script.And for the most stuff we have it's just unnecessary too use scripts, we're talking about layout here.

(Maybe the wrong place for the discussion.)

  • follow_up changed from test to review code.

On alpha: The map from google only works on profile and comments, but not on the other pages (just a placeholder).

On test:

  • the google map including brand is really big and ugly; a waste of space and a non-paid advertisement (can I have at least a pic from openstreetmap?)
  • the submenue Profile, My visitors, My Preferences and so on is changing nearly everytime you switch to another subpage, I'd expect it the same everywhere (within the subpages). Example: if you click on preferences the submenue doesn't make sense anymore (Profile/View Comments(n)/Photo Gallery)
  • I'd expect the messages in the submenues as well not in the topmenu (this is similar on the livesite and i never get used to it)
  • In preferences the radio buttons are invisible
  • Edit my profile
    • no action after "submit"
    • visible string "<FIELDSET> Contact Information"
    • the headlines like "Accommodation" look weird (more space around them, more to the left hand side)

Needs definetly some more testing, but also review of code, so I set it back to "review".
