Description

I'm willing to change the look of all the public pages of our website, make them cleaner and easier to use. As a first step I will introduce a new startpage and (if it suits the other volunteers and members) continue to work on the tour, the about pages and (that will be a new ticket) the inner BW pages (mainpage etc.)

Do we really need all this javascript fade-in-picture-slide-shows baubles on the startpage ? As a friend of speed i always get frustated when i have to wait until i can login. Maybe the login field would be better below the topmenu (horizontal) anyway.

We should also reconsider the user pictures on the bottom:

  1. you can see them only when your scroll down (except you have a huge screen)
  2. i think only users who really want to be on the public startpage should be listed there.
  3. it doesn't really look nice, yet
  4. maybe a good written reference about BeWelcome from a couple of users would be better instead of showing just pictures ?

But in genreral i really like the new approach. Good work, Micha :-)
