[edit top section]

The forum moderators take care of keeping the forum a friendly, well-structured and fun place. They move posts to the right categories (if members posted in a wrong place), offer help (if users have problems with the site) and enforce the forum rules (if necessary). Forums are generally a very specific place for communication and members often have different views of what should be allowed or not tolerated. Forum moderators have to take a stand within this range of opinions and represent BeWelcome on the forum. Sometimes they will have to warn members, if they do not respect the rules and for example offend other users.

What skills / knowledge do you need to help?

You should enjoy browsing the forum on a regular basis and posting there yourself. You should like communicating with members and 'be good with words'. You should be fluent in English or have decent English skills and be able to offer one or two other languages (very much needed: Spanish). You should be capable of facing attacks, if members do not agree with your moderation.

How much time should you be able to spend on this task?

You should be willing to follow the forum or part of the forum on a regular basis. It is important to know the context of single threads and it helps a lot to know the posters.

Other requirements?

Just one: it is important that you agree with the rules and guidelines of the forum. Not because they're the Absolute Truth, but because those are the rules and guidelines that we - both as moderators and as normal posters - need to follow. If you do not agree with them, you cannot moderate the forum. While this might seem trivially true, please consider it carefully before applying.
