Problems and barriers
- slow or limited internet connections

- messages trying to establish contact are often considered almost spam in western countries
- language as a barrier: English as the internet language
- <-> BeWelcome has translatable profiles
incentives / benefits for people from other cultures
- hospitality is often a natural and genuine feature in many cultures
- foreign visitors are often considered a status symbol
- against general assumptions that 'poor people have other things to worry about than hospitality exchange' please read: http://www.betraveler.org/index.php/hospitality-of-the-poor
Solutions
- going out to ‘them’, approaching them in person
- approaching international organizations like Oxfam who are there already
- they can establish connections with their networks
- use local portals
- we need local volunteers to feed in information of how to
- get in touch with local publishers
- journalists’ network in China: www.zonaeuropa.com
- get in touch with expat communities to get more local info
- upload a video to you-tube
- create press material
- approach universities (there you can find mediators)
