Talk:BeWelcome is unique
From BeVolunteer Wiki
I haven't been around here for a while, but John pointed alerted me to the existence of this article. A brief question; should its content be just about BW, or should it also contain facts (FACTS) about the other hospex networks?
I realise there is a large risk of this turning into a mud-slinging contest, but I feel that a comparison page is not complete without such information.

- good question, Bentivogli. I would prefer just talking about BeWelcome. By thinking about what facts we collect here, you can of course easily disguise what other networks do not have this or handle this in a different way. An objective comparison can certainly not be done by those who run one of the networks, at least it would not be considered objective by others... claudiaab 09:46, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
- Welcome back here. We don't have to claim any form of objectivity here (it's a wiki edited by BW/BV volunteers :) but I agree that it's probably better to focus on what BeWelcome is. We could also rename the page. Any suggestions? guakaBW, wikitalk 10:11, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
- We may want to call it 'things that make BeWelcome unique', or something similar. Still I would personally tend to formulate these unique characteristics like "Unlike Hospitality Club and Couchsurfing, BeWelcome is a democratic organisation", etc. I agree with yous that this page shouldn't be the place to go into the bad things of the other networks, but plainly stating "BW is a democratic organisation" to me is not wholly convincing. - Hehe, what about:

- Good ideas, Andreas. I like the comparison to online communities in general - just that BW is trying to be exactly more than an online community (which would be the first argument for such a comparison...).
- Things that make BeWelcome unique - that would also suit well as official title. Within the text and for individual points we could compare to other networks.

- BeWelcome is unique? Could even be a slogan :) guakaBW, wikitalk 20:30, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
- Am I correct in assuming that 'the majority' (whatever that may be) is in favour of renaming the article to 'things that make BeWelcome unique'? If so, what is good BW/Wiki policy to make the change? I was about to just edit the name (ooops, I can't), but then I figured that maybe a specific person (whoever started the article, maybe) should do it? Or am I just being overly cautious now? ;) Bentivogli 10:21, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
- Just click "move". Any registered user of this wiki can do that. It will leave a redirect for the previous name. Double redirects are not usually followed though, so if it's moved again it could be a problem (but I usually check for double redirects now and then). guakaBW, wikitalk 10:52, 15 June 2008 (UTC)
