New features howto
Fine! I am going to make a new page for "How to introduce new features" soon. Are there any policies I should respect? Like guidelines about how a page should be named etc? Also I am thinking about how much "I", "me" and "myself" should be in the articles I write. In the end it should appear as a group effort, right? -- lemon-head 16:04, 20 July 2007 (CEST)
- Awesome! Just do whatever you think is sensible. I tend to always check out the recent changes and help out where needed. Indeed, "me myself and I" is better avoided, since others will be less tempted to add and improve stuff like that. :) guakaBW, wikitalk 16:39, 20 July 2007 (CEST)
Progress of Translation
hi Guaka yes it's output of a script the AdminWord Tool, so it has to be changed manually so far, sorry, I just wanted to update the figures ..
- Ok, thanks for letting me know. I copied some stuff to Template talk:Progress of Translation :) guakaBW, wikitalk 16:56, 24 July 2007 (CEST)
Sitemap
Some question with the sitemap:
- Do we have "sub-pages" enabled? (with a slash in the name)
- Does it hurt to have too many single templates?
- How can I link directly to an "edit" page?
thx, -- lemon-head 01:15, 9 August 2007 (CEST)
- Yes, AFAIK sub pages are enabled on all MediaWikis :)
- Yes. See my reply in the forum.
- I think you figured out that one. But, I normally just copy/paste the link while I'm editing.
- I thought there would be a wiki command for that.. of course I can do it with html links instead.
One more:
- The prefix "bw-sitemap:" is not very helpful for readability. Maybe we should put it in braces instead? bw-sitemap:Start Page vs Start Page (bw-sitemap)
- To see the current solution with templates in action, see BW-sitemap:Forums Page
-- lemon-head 01:21, 9 August 2007 (CEST)
- I don't know.
More:
- Is it possible to embed only one section of a template? Something like this:
{{template:European History#The Roman Empire}}
-- lemon-head 01:40, 9 August 2007 (CEST)
- I don't think so. Maybe there is, but it would make it even more complicated I think... guakaBW, wikitalk 13:13, 9 August 2007 (CEST)
Wiki stylesheets
Hi again!
I would like to do some experiments with css, especially to improve the new features page and also the sitemap.
Unfortunately I could not figure out how to activate my own user stylesheets, or bind a stylesheet to a page. Can you tell me how this works?
I also would be happy to get access to the central css file, but I think I need to ask someone else for that, right?
Cheers, lemon-head 01:49, 15 August 2007 (CEST)
Disclaimer
Hi Kasper,
We are not allowed to copy the text from disclaimer.de, we may only link to it. On the other hand that text is made and updated by pros. So I say suggest we still link to it, is there a way to make the disclaimer link here a direct link? Probably needs fiddling in the template, right? --MarcoP 23:10, 15 August 2007 (CEST)
Cooperation
thanks for the appreciation :)
I would like to cooperate more with you in working on this wiki, but it is always difficult to quickly get in contact without skype. Maybe you can tell me what I need to do different with miranda and jabber (see my email)? Or better use another client? I like to use trillian for everything, but it does not support jabber afaik.
--lemon-head 18:06, 31 August 2007 (CEST)
- Hmm, starting next week I might have more a bit more Skype availability.
- I'm sure it's possible to use gmail accounts with Jabber clients (I've done it myself). So you could do that. You can also add an all-catch filter so that all mail sent there is forwarded to another of your accounts.
- On the other hand, there are 2 people chatting with me with non-Google Jabber accounts. So it should be possible. But I don't know anything about Trillian... guakaBW, wikitalk 11:05, 1 September 2007 (CEST)
- yes, one of them being me. :) remember, google is evil. so is $kype. note that the name of the jabber protocol is xmpp. some clients list it now only under that name. --Planetcruiser 01:28, 2 September 2007 (CEST)
- I would like to get jabber running and connect to you guys, but it doesn't work. Could you write something about Jabber, what I need to set up in miranda/another client to find you guys ?
License
Hey Kasper, ik heb de licentie op m'n profiel aangepast. Kopieer naar hartelust! ;-) --Tgoorden 19:28, 23 September 2007 (CEST)
Hier ook :) --Lioen 9:59, 27 September 2007 (CEST)
Protect the statues page
We wiki-meet again! :) I think the Statutes page should be protected as it's a published document, not a work in progress. What do you think? Callum 14:27, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
- I think it should be on many people's watchlist. We can protect it whenever it's necessary. It might be useful to leave it open to add wikilinks, or links to (future, inofficial) translations, and more. guakaBW, wikitalk 11:14, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
LV guide
Of course you can use it. Actually I wrote it on the HCVol wiki (because HC didn't have a wiki back then). The plan is to integrate the communities of HC, BW and CS. So from my side everything is to be shared!!
cheers,
kjell
Welcome back to the wiki!
We have done some time without your contributions.. hope it was not all too amateurish :p
One thing I activated was the subpage feature for the main namespace. This way we get breadcrumbs when a page is called parentname/childname (guess i don't tell anything new..). Wikipedia discourages use of this feature, but I think for our purposes it can be useful. Our wiki is not an encyclopedia, but a workspace, so the conditions are different. We could see it as a category we get for free... --lemon-head 23:17, 1 November 2007 (UTC)
- I've become more active with the prospect of finally opening up the wiki :) IIRC the word "amateur" means someone who loves to do his work, so I think it's great to go about on an amateurish way! I think the breadcrumbs are quite useful. guakaBW, wikitalk 23:30, 1 November 2007 (UTC)
- One question about opening up the wiki: Will it be possible to have public vs non-public separated by namespace? This would make things a lot easier, we would not have to maintain a whitelist or blacklist, and it would be more obvious which pages are hidden.
I am also interested if it is possible to hide or wipe page history. Not sure if that's necessary, but if something is really considered confidential (not sure what), then we should wipe the history as well.. lemon-head 00:08, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

- As far as I know permissions-per-namespace is not possible without some serious hacking of MediaWiki (which would probably also leave open a lot of holes). It would be great if it were possible, because we could just make the whole User: namespace private to start. But MediaWiki is definitely not great at running a wiki with mixed access credentials. It's mostly all or nothing.
- The best way to wipe the history is copying the text, deleting the article, and pasting the text into a "new" article. I've done this for a couple of user pages a while ago. guakaBW, wikitalk 12:47, 2 November 2007 (UTC)
Protected team workspaces ?
I don't know if you have read my comment in the forum..
The main problem with opening the wiki is that some teams still want to have a 'protected' (= hidden from public) workspace. There was the idea to use joomla for this purpose, but I don't really believe in it - joomla is just not nice as a workspace for everyday editing. I think we will have to solve this problem first.
I just had a look into the wikimatrix, but without a useful result.
Another thing I tried is to implement the whitelist of public pages as a wiki page, so we could use a web interface to make pages public. I tried to use wgMsg("PublicPagesWhitelist") inside LocalSettings.php, but it doesn't work in this place.
Another thing I noticed is that our mediawiki has not been updated for a while..
--lemon-head 20:06, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
- The last time I looked into this problem it seemed as if there were less than 10 pages that needed to remain hidden from the public and those pages are hardly ever edited.
- A related problem is that I constantly become stalled in booking progress since I don't know what I can do and I don't have access.
- Let's work this out on Saturday. guakaBW, wikitalk 12:53, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
Conf
Hi Guaka, I'm pretty much looking forward meeting you again - and all the other people! (You seem to attract other people, but may be I shouldn't anticipate the surprise ;-) So long! Felix 22:45, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
