The verification network is a proposal discussed during the first BW-conference 2008 in Antwerp, Belgium. The implementation is suggested to begin with the upcoming general assembly later this year.

General principle

The proposed member verification works on a simple snowball or chain reaction process. This means that a certain group of members become verified and subsequently can verify members themselves afterwards. We propose to start this process at and with the members of the next GA.

Furthermore there would be two different steps of verification; name and address verification. Names would only have to be verified once (and are consequently locked) while addresses would have to be verified with each change of location (this will probably lead to only a few verified addresses but many names). Verified members would be labelled accordingly on their profile.

The process

In order to avoid fake verifications, the process would have to be done by two members at the same time from the same computer. This could easily be achieved by an extra verification page that can only be successfully used by a verified member and another member to be verified. Thereby avoiding fake verification inbetween fake profiles.

The page itself would feature a headline, e.g. Verification contract, including a short explanation, and two log-in fields. Below those two log-in fields there would be another two fields displaying the FULL names AFTER successful log-in (indiffenent of profile display status). These fields would also provide the respective addresses, IF and only if the verifying member provides a verified address as well, otherwise there'd be only the name displayed. Below all of this would be one big submit button. See picture.

Just in case verified name in spe should not exactly match the name stated in the passport, there should be a possibility implemented to edit the name on the spot. (This is not yet included in the page draft)
