Procedure concerning possible spam (to be implemented technically)

  1. A member receives a message he or she considers spam
  2. The member clicks "mark spam" button
  3. The message is moved to the "spam" folder of the recipient, a notification is automatically sent to volunteers. The message is marked 'spam?' in the 'Sent' folder of the sender.
  4. The volunteer checks the message if it's spam according to the Spam Rules (there will be a section describing clearly what is spam and what is not)
  5. If it is spam the volunteer sends a warning to the spammer explaining that the message was spam.
  6. After very bad spam or after repeated spamming the spammer is removed from BeWelcome.

Important: Volunteers can only see messages that were reported to them via the "mark spam" button.

Spam types (examples to be provided later)

  • Advance fee fraud (Nigerian Scam)
  • dating
  • invitations to chat (MSN, ICQ etc.)
  • visa support requests
  • business promotion
  • insult
  • secretary
  • job search
  • apartment search
  • unfounded invitation
  • unclear purpose

Please, note, that we ask our members to decide themselves what they consider annoying. That means that if nobody complains about a message that includes a question about possibility to find an apartment etc, we do not deal with the sender at all. The list of spam types just helps the senders, recipients and volunteers to decide whether the message was spam or not.
